IN TOUCH WITH IPWV JULY/AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Everyone has a distinct personality pattern. Your personality includes specific ways of thinking, reasoning, feeling, and acting. Each person is born with a single Core Motive (or Core Color) that remains stable throughout life. While your Core Motive never changes, you can always develop strengths and/or limitations from the different personalities over time and in different situations.

The Color Code personality test will help you understand your Core Motive and provide insights to working more effectively with others. The profile will help you understand your innate strengths and limitations, and help you relate more effectively with others, both at work and at home.

If you would like to take the test for free you may do so by visiting the web site at www.thecolorcode.com. Then select take free personality test.

Back to School Safety

Young students

Pedestrian injuries are the second leading cause of unintentional death among children ages five to 14. Children who walk to school or to a bus stop must be reminded to:

1. Look left, right, then left again before crossing the street.

2. Always try to cross a street when a crossing guard is present.

3. Cross in front of the bus only after the driver signals its okay to do so.

High school students

Statistics show that teen drivers are four times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than more experienced drivers. In fact, 6,000 young people are killed each year in fatal crashes. If your children drive to school:

1. Teach them to always buckle-up and require everyone else in the car to buckle-up as well.

2. Remind them to always obey the speed limit.

3. Choose a safe car for teens to drive—remember large cars are safer than small ones.

4. Enforce no-drinking-and-driving rules

Old Business:

Association Award applications are due by 9/2/07 and just a reminder anyone can apply. There are currently 4 applications from our seven local associations to be sent in to IN Council Awards Chair.

Committee lists were passed around. Ways and Means still needs a Chair. Please let Debbie know if you are interested.

Horizon Committee will not be made up of the board but will be a separate committee.

Debbie will chair the Safety Committee but needs someone to help.

Website is up and going, we will have pictures, links, newsletters, contact information. There is a suggestion box that is the "contact us" link and in order to make anonymous suggestions you must make up a name and email address – they do not have to be valid but something has to go into the blanks. www.insurewabashvalley.com

Committee Reports:

Education: we are still waiting on books for Communicate With Confidence class. The Ethics class – Lake County has only 6 or 7 members and may possibly want to teleconference in on our class. This will help them with their DAE designation. They will be responsible for their own books. Sara McCammon motioned that we allow this and Jennifer Moreland 2nd; motion was passed.

Fundraisers (Ways & Means) – We will have 2 links on our website, one for leadership material and one for magazine sales. This is no cost to us and if someone clicks on these links from our website then we will make a % of the profit from any purchase they may make. There was a motion to accept this. Jennifer Wallace 1st, Tina Dean 2nd Motion was passed. Also, keep in mind that we can also make money if home businesses such as Partylite, Home Interiors, Pampered Chef, would like to advertise on our website, we would charge approx. $10-15 per year.

Membership: September there will be a flyer going out to local insurance agencies and affiliates. Membership committee members may make some phone calls to follow up and strike up interest. This will help to diversify our group.

Social: October meeting will be held at the ONB Conference Center and our guests will be students from the ISU Insurance & Risk Management. Tish will be speaking as State Director. They have decided to hold the Children’s Christmas Party again at the conference center.

Publicity: Please let Debbie know of any accomplishments.

New Business: We had four resignations turned in from the board members – this included immediate Past President. Tish read the responsibilities of the board from the Bylaws and members were asked to volunteer for board positions. Sarah McCammon volunteered since she was the prior immediate Past President, Linda Berry, Eileen Helton and Carla Carson also stepped up. Along with Jenni Thompson the new board of directors will be complete.

Debbie said that she has a lot of ideas and hopes that everyone understands her position and understands that she is not trying to shake things up. She thinks that for the next incoming President, they should have a game plan together in May so that the general membership can review before the next term begins.

TIKE stickers were passed out and we are going to start distributing from our offices. Other associations have sent them to maternity wards, daycares and to the sponsors of the car seat checks.

Childrens Art Project grades (K-5). This will be for Fire Safety month in October. Tina will talk with the Vigo County School Corporation to see if we can distribute color sheets to the art classes in the schools and then we can pick them up at a designated time. State Farm has agreed to help judge the papers and will also provide reward cards for $25, $15 & $10. There was a motion to accept this project. Jennifer Moreland 1st; Tina Dean 2nd. Motion was passed.

We will collect for Grumbling Tummy’s all summer and purchase gift cards for them. Old National Bank said that they would donate $500 if their were 20 or more of their employees involved in a community project, since this is the case it was motioned that we allow them to donate this money. Jenni Thompson 1st, Sarah McCammon 2nd, Motion was passed.

Tish has asked to be a mentor to our organization so please feel free to contact her by phone or email – she is open to anyone.

It was suggested that as we diversify we may want to start holding meetings at other locations and maybe even an evening meeting. If anyone has suggestions please go to the website or let Connie know. Please consider the time and cost. We have been able to make money on lunches by carrying in.

It was discussed to change the bylaws to have summer meetings as needed but our bylaws already state that meetings can be called as needed by the Board or President.

Meeting was adjourned.
